Belize one-week bareboat

Depart from our base at Laru Beya Marina in the lagoon on the west of Placencia peninsula for your first day of your Belize bareboat charter holiday. From here you’ll head into the dazzling waters of the Caribbean to enjoy a spell of blue water sailing as you head northeast to Whipray Caye. Here you’re perfectly placed for snorkelling the coral reef and world-class fishing, with tarpon, bonefish, snapper, grouper and barracuda just a quick five-minute boat ride away.

Today you’ll sail north from Whipray Caye to Hideaway Caye, nestled in the heart of the Pelican Caye range. This tiny mangrove-covered island features its own dinghy dock and a network of elevated wooden walkways that wind around the mangrove trees. Snorkel the colourful coral reefs or fish in the crystal clear water.

Catch a cooling trade wind and continue north to South Water Caye. This idyllic private island is one of the few in Belize that sits right on top of the barrier reef. Practise your shallow water navigation skills as you gently wind your way through patchy reefs. Grab a mooring buoy and dinghy ashore to unwind on a hammock and dine on buttery lobster, or grab your mask and flippers and snorkel the magnificent barrier reef just offshore.

Visit the Smithsonian Research Station on Carrie Bow Caye to learn more about this valuable ecosystem and snorkel the rich waters of the reef.

Head to the northern end of the reef and grab a mooring buoy at Carrie Bow Caye. You’ll have three restaurants to choose from so sit back and enjoy some of the region’s spectacular seafood.

Leave South Water Caye behind and point your bow northwest to Thatch Caye. Located in the Coco Plum chain, Thatch Caye is an eco-resort that forms part of a marine park. Relax on the pristine white sand as spider monkeys scamper through the undergrowth or treat yourself to a rum punch and sample the delicious Belizean dishes. Kick off your shoes and walk between the shallow cayes or head for the water and enjoy kayaking, snorkelling, fly fishing and swimming.

Spectacular bird watching

Head to nearby Man-O-War Caye to see a breeding colony of spectacular frigate birds. The caye offers some of the best bird watching in Belize.

A little piece of Caribbean paradise, Tobacco Caye is a perfect place to enjoy a lunch of succulent mahi mahi or tarpon at one of the restaurants.

Retrace your steps and sail south through the splendid Caribbean waters. Today you’ll head for unique Lagoon Caye with the picturesque Belizean coastline stretching across your starboard side. This tiny, verdant ring of island creates a stunning deep blue lagoon backed by lush forests. Here you can kayak across the glassy waters of the lagoon or snorkel along the coast.

Dine on lionfish

Lionfish may be beautiful, but they’re an invasive species here in the Caribbean Sea. The best way to get rid of them is to eat them, and they taste delicious hot from the grill at Hatchet Caye.

Stop for lunch in the sparkling waters of tiny Moho Caye, an idyllic white sand, palm tree-covered island nestled in the heart of the Port Honduras Marine Reserve.

Today you’ll turn west and make the journey from Hatchet Caye to No Name Point. This safe and secure anchorage is situated on mangrove fringed peninsula sheltering a lagoon teeming with wildlife, so hire a kayak to explore the intriguing waters.

Face to face with monkeys

Visit Monkey River Town, one of the last remaining purely creole villages in Belize. This traditional fishing community is a taste of true Caribbean culture and home to some fantastic wildlife, including black howler monkeys.

On the last day of your Belize bareboat charter you’ll head back to Placencia Harbour to return your yacht before you leave. Use any extra time to explore the open-air markets and colourful curio shops.
